Types of Zebra Labels

Zebra is a leading specialty and barcode printing company offering an array of best selling label printers and supplies. There are two basic types of Zebra labels. Let’s take a look at each of them below.

Direct Thermal Transfer

Direct thermal Zebra labels use heat sensitive paper that darkens when it passes under the printer head. No ink or ribbons are used so the operating costs are lower. The print quality is high as is the case with all thermal printers. The drawback however is that these Zebra labels can fade over time. Therefore they are recommended for temporary use such as for shipping labels, event tickets, and name tags.

Thermal Transfer

Thermal transfer Zebra labels on the other hand, actually absorb ink. The printer head heats up the ink ribbon which then melts the ink onto the Zebra label. The result is a high quality long lasting print that is unsurpassed in label printers.

When purchasing replacement Zebra labels, in addition to noting if your printer is thermal or direct thermal, also obtain the model number and width of stock required. There is a large selection of Zebra labels on the market, but if you know the above three specifications, you can easily find the one you need.
